SPECIAL OLYMPICS ATHLETES BECOME
CHOCOLATIERS FOR A DAY AT
PETERBROOKE
Just in time
for Valentine's Day, Peterbrooke Chocolatier's Winter
Park and Winter Garden locations gave local Special
Olympics athletes a real treat: the chance to go behind
the counter and become chocolatiers for a day Feb.
5
Winter Garden store owners Nancy and
Phil Bresson and Winter Park store manager Mary Jo
Mulder shared with the athletes the art of making
Peterbrooke's renowned chocolates and then let the
athletes tried their hand at creating their own
chocolate delicacies, including hand-dipped
strawberries. The athletes created
chocolate treats similar to those that Peterbrooke
Chocolatier has donated for guests to enjoy during
Special Olympics Florida's 6th Annual Champions Gala, on
Valentine's Day at Loew's Portofino Bay Hotel in
Orlando. Approximately 500 patrons will attend the
annual fundraising event for Special Olympics
Florida.

ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
Andrew Lytle
Basketball and Bocce
Andrew is a 14 year
old who has Spina Bifida with Hydrocephalus. He
uses a walker and wears AFO braces. Andrew has had
multiple surgeries but always remains strong and
optimistic. He is very outgoing and is very competitive.
As a mom I have tried several times to find sports and
activities that he could do. Recently I went on the
mission to find a sport again, when I can across Special
Olympics. I wasn't sure that he would be able to join
Special Olympics at the time but figured I would try
anyways. I got to looking at the schedules and discussed
the basketball with Andrew and his father, Earl. Andrew
stated that he would like to try it, so I contacted
Special Olympics in Seminole County the next day. Andrew
started the basketball skills that
weekend. Everyone was so nice and was a great help.
Andrew started improving in school and checks his
schedules every Saturday to plan for the next
practice. This has helped his confidence level and his
self-esteem. As a parent I am grateful that this is
available for children like Andrew. The coaches are
wonderful, they take the time to help the
children. Andrew has role models that treat him
normal, like any other children. They are really
amazing. Now that Basketball is over Andrew has joined
Bocce. I think we are all going to be busy for a while.
Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts for
bringing our family closer.

VOLUNTEER OF THE
MONTH
Amy Cottrill
Coach
Basketball, Unified Partner
I was born in Bradenton, Fl and
lived there my entire life before moving to Auburn, Al
and Gainesville, Fl to attend college. After college, I
moved to Orlando to start Consumer
Advocates. I enjoy all sports, especially
basketball and football, with my favorite teams being
the Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Florida Gators, and New
York Giants. I would have to say that I became involved
with SOSC because of Aaron Hudson, as I began working
with him in May of 2008 and he introduced me to Nin
at bowling, and the rest is history. I look forward to
many more years of Special Olympics and really enjoy
seeing the athletes enjoy themselves in
whatever sparks their interests. Again, I hope this
is helpful, but if I need to provide a little more, then
don't hesitate to call. Take care and I will see you
soon.

THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS
Special Olympics Seminole County
relies greatly on assistance from Sponsors. They are
always in need, not only to provide financial help, but
to offer safe and productive training facilities to our
athletes. Without the generous donations of many
organizations, our athletes would not have the
facilities, equipment, volunteers or funds to
train and compete on a year-round
basis for free. We all appreciate
everyone's support!
